The proper choice of clothing is really important in making
your senior portraits look really great!

Here are some simple guidelines to help you make the best choices:

    Keep it simple
While you should certainly pick clothes that you like, remember that the center of attention in the portrait should be you, not your clothes. Solid tones and muted colors will definitely look the best. Really try to avoid busy distracting patterns and loud prints which call attention to the body and add weight! They might look great in person, but in your pictures they'll fight for your attention.

    Keep the clothes "in key"
What does that mean? Simple; if you want something with a light background, wear white or light clothing. If you prefer a darker background, wear darker clothes. We'll often pick a color in your clothes and repeat it in the background. This helps to focus attention on the subject, and makes the portrait look "coordinated". The best portraits are ones in which one dominant color or color scheme is selected and repeated throughout.

    Outdoor portrait require special consideration.

If your portrait will be done in any of our garden or wooded areas, solid, earthy colors will be best. This would include, but not be limited to, browns and beiges, warm (forest) greens, and soft blues and rusts. If you're having difficulty deciding on clothing, bring several outfits with you to your portrait session. We'll be happy to help you pick clothes that will flatter you in pictures, and work well with the style of poses and modules you select.

Remember, we already have the formal drapes, tuxedos, and cap and gown garments here to do the traditional poses your parents want, and we can do them in an attractive way that even you and your friends will like.

Portraits at our beach look best with "beach colors". This would mean white, pale blue, beige or cream. Again, as in all portraits, solid colors, long pants or skirts and long sleeves are always the very best choice. Stone washed or light colored denims with a pastel or white top work well at the beach also. If you're the adventurous type, we can finish your session with some "wet look" poses back in the studio. Bring your favorite beach towel, your bathing suit, your sunglasses and any other props that may be special to you and we can personalize these photos "just for you"! Prepare to get the sand between your toes as we bring the look and feel of a warm summer day at the Ocean to you.

Important...If you wear glasses, it would help if you have the lenses removed or bring a pair of empty frames for your portrait session. Glass glare can be removed as an extra retouching charge, however, in some cases, the reflections may be impossible to remove.
